MICROSOFT NAVISION MANUFACTURING

Navision Manufacturing is a software solution for mid-sized manufacturers that require agility and flexibility. It allows you to quickly and easily implement change - on the fly - as your business needs dictate. Navision Manufacturing provides exceptional functionality to assist you in improving customer service, opening the shop floor to management through improved visibility and lowering your costs through better inventory management.

Navision Manufacturing is fully integrated with Navision Financials, reporting tools, e-commerce, full multinational capabilities and business management. It is designed for discrete manufacturers who require the ability to easily implement the ongoing changes required to successfully compete in today's manufacturing environment.

Manufacturing Application Areas

Navision Manufacturing consists of the following functional areas:

  • Base Manufacturing
  • Materials Requirement Planning
  • Capacity Resource Planning
System Wide Highlights

Navision Manufacturing system wide features include:

Adherence to Microsoft Standards

Only products with the "Designed for Microsoft" logos, including Windows 98/NT, Windows 95/NT and BackOffice, and the Microsoft Office 97 Compatible logo offer the full range of industry standard characteristics of the Windows 98 32-bit architecture and user interface. Use of the traditional Microsoft icons, clean tab format and full compliance with Microsoft's filing and editing functionality in Navision Manufacturing ensures the following benefits:

  • A higher degree of familiarity due to the Microsoft look and feel of the Navision interface resulting in a system that is easier to learn and more efficient to maintain
  • Faster implementation because less training is required resulting in a faster return on investment. Packages based on industry standards help ensure you have made a good long term IT investment
Superior Visibility and Navigation
  • The Tracking functionality in Navision Manufacturing greatly exceeds the traditional scope of the APICS' definition of pegging because Tracking is bi-directional and multi-level with multiple points of entry. Navision's Tracking functionality gives you better tools to enable you to offer superior customer service and further distinguish yourself from the competition
  • Quickly access information online and view the information you need to faster solve the critical challenges of daily operations. Item Availability Windows, Statistics Windows, Load and Task Windows all allow you to get real time data. We offer you fast access to information because we know you can't make critical decisions on yesterday's data.
  • Navision's legendary "drill down" and "drill around" features let you navigate in virtually any direction. For example, you can easily drill or navigate from production orders to component lists to inventory tables to vendor tables to purchase orders. The ability to drill and navigate is due to Navision's unique SIFT technology.
Outstanding Visibility Functionality
  • Multi-level Where-Used functionality available in the Bills of Material, Bills of Material Lines, Routings and Inventory Card
  • Version Matrix functions allow you to easily view all the multiple BOM or Routings versions on one screen and easily determine their differences
  • Trendscape or Matrix Windows that allow you to view information instantly in one simple keystroke by the day, week, month, year or by period, as well as, by net change or balance at date too
  • Item Availability windows which can be viewed from any point in the system where you drill into the item list such as, the Item Card, BOM Line, Production Order Component List, and the MRP Worksheet. From the MRP Worksheet you can view information such as Quantity on Purchase Order, Quantity on Sales Order, Scheduled Receipt, Scheduled Need, MRP Need, MRP Issues, Expected Quantity on Hand and Available Quantity on Hand. Navision Manufacturing delivers fast access to critical information
  • The Planning Window allows you to easily view the status of a sales order, determine if it has been planned and the expected ship date, as well as, offer unique functionality to create different types (Multi-Line, Multi-Level or Standard) of production orders directly from the sales order
  • The Statistics Function allows you to view on screen actual costs versus expected costs and variances related to any sales order, production order, purchase order, work center, machine center, customer, item or vendor. With Navision Manufacturing you don't have to wait until the order is finished to determine where you stand on a job. We allow you the visibility to see what is happening as operations are completed and posted and materials are consumed. This gives you the opportunity to intervene and fix problems before they permanently affect your bottom line.

Superior Keystroke Saving Features

  • Copy features beyond the inherent Microsoft Cut, Copy and Paste saves time in setting up Bills of Materials and Routings
  • Routing Link Codes significantly reduce the number, complexity and maintenance of Bills of Material and Routings, because you can link the material on a Bill of Material to a specific operational step on a Routing. Most systems require you to hard code one Bill of Material and Routing for each and every item - but not Navision. In addition, Routing Link Codes offer you the ability to flush a material at a specific operational step for better just in time functionality and more accurate inventory
  • Make Order Functions in the MRP Worksheet allow you to easily turn the suggestions from MRP into production and purchase orders without re-keying data
  • Show Column Functionality allows you to easily customize screens by adding/removing fields and arranging those fields in the order you enter data. The screens are easier to read, keystrokes are reduced and you are certain to have only the information that is pertinent to your task
  • The use of function keys applied consistently throughout the application saves time and effort both in learning the application and using it on a daily basis

Foreign Trade Functionality

  • Navision is one of the first software vendors to receive European Monetary Union Accreditation for multi-currency and triangulation from Ernst and Young and BASDA
  • Allows you to print your financials in multiple currencies
  • Allows you to define multiple currencies, as many as you need, for customers and vendors
  • Navision is currently available in 22 different languages

The Latest Technology

  • MAPI compliance that allows you to access data in Navision applications, copy it into an email message and send it. Forward your confirming orders in multiple currencies to foreign customers via email without leaving Navision!
  • Automation Controller provides access to many popular Microsoft applications directly from Navision. This offers graphical representation of information, such as scheduled capacity
  • ODBC both read and write offers unlimited industry standard integration to such popular programs such as CAD

Basic Manufacturing

The features included in this area of functionality includes the following:

Production Bills of Materials

  • Individual parts or raw materials
  • Subassemblies that may include their own Bill of Material
  • Phantom Bills of Material
  • Multiple versions with effectivity dates for the entire Bill of Material and/or any line item on the Bill of Material to easily track ECOs
  • Calculate flexible formulas for quantities based on length, height, width and weight
  • Define scrap percentage per component
  • Define production lead-time per component
  • Modify Bill of Materials, on the fly, from the Production Order, or MRP Line without affecting the Master Bill of Material to eliminate costly errors. Only Certified Bills of Material may be used to plan production orders

Five Types of Production Orders

  • Simulated for costing and configuration purposes (i.e. proposals or estimates)
  • Planned Orders, which are erased during MRP regeneration and may be used of "what if" scenarios
  • Firm Planned Orders that are never erased during MRP regeneration and usually represent Sales Orders or the Master Production Schedule
  • Released Production Orders are orders that are released to the shop floor and allow materials and time to be posted against the order. It is during this release that automatic picking of materials occurs for items are auto-flushed
  • Finished Orders keep full detail for historical purposes including the Bill of Material, Routing, Statistical and Tracking information. Even when components and/or operations were changed - on the fly - the details for a specific order are easily referenced

Order Scheduling and Order Planning Options

  • Production Orders can be generated from Sales Orders with the option of creating standard production orders (one item per order). Or they can be generated to create a Project (Multi-Line Production Order) that duplicates all items on a Sales Order on one Production Order. You can produce a multi-level production order from a Sales Order or from MRP. Lastly, you can produce Multi-Level Project (Multi-Line) Orders from Sales Orders
  • Production Orders can be automatically created from the MRP Worksheet without duplicate data entry
  • Production Orders may also be entered directly into the system and materials, operations and costs are simultaneously planned via Navision's Refresh Functionality
  • The system allows for forward or backward scheduling of orders
  • Changes, made on the fly, to materials, operations, or requisition methods are simultaneously re-planned in Navision Manufacturing allowing you to easily implement the changes necessary to compete in today's manufacturing environment in your software system

Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

  • Intelligent MRP Scheduling. If the demand required places the inventory levels below your reorder point but above your safety (buffer) stock level then MRP will automatically forward schedule the order. If however, the demand falls below both your reorder point and safety (buffer) stock then the system will automatically backward schedule the order indicating to the planner that some type of action should have begun on this order before now
  • Simultaneous planning of materials, capacity and costs
  • MRP uses a bucketless approach to planning
  • Multiple worksheets, which allow for multiple MRP generations to review various production options or what if scenarios
  • Automatically turn MRP suggestions into production orders and purchasing requisitions without re-keying any data
  • Ability to plan in a regenerative or net change mode
  • Ability to implement make or buy decisions on the fly (one keystroke) form the MRP Worksheet
  • MRP now detects and corrects planning parameters when real demand exceeds the established parameters. For example if the Maximum Order Quantity for an item is 50 and the demand is 60 it will automatically suggest the higher quantity
  • MRP supports multi-level production orders
  • MRP Item Availability Windows allow planners to instantly view the results of MRP Planning

Capacity Resource Planning

  • Capacity Units of Measures allow for relationships to be created for Purchasing Units, Production Bill of Material Units, stocking units, sales units etc. Work Shifts can be defined for the way you run your business
  • Shop Calendars can be defined at the Work Center Level or you may consolidate all the Machines attached to a Work Center to define the calendar
  • The ability to be as dynamic or disciplined as you wish in defining the level of detail to track: Work Center Groups such as Inventory Department, Work Centers such as Assembly or Paint, Machine Centers individual machines or people assigned to Work Centers
  • Routing Link Codes are defined to link materials on the Bill of Material to specific operational steps on the Routing
  • Scrap Codes can be defined to reduce data entry
  • Stop Codes also can be defined to reduce data entry

Production Routings:

  • Multiple versions with effectivity dates easily track ECOs Define Throughput Times, Scrap %, Send-A-Head Quantities, Concurrent Capacities
  • Ability to have serial or parallel processing of operations
  • Work Center/Machine Center Definitions: Capacity or number of people or machines assigned to this work center
  • Efficiency percent planning
  • Default Routing information can be defined for the Machine Center
  • Ability to view load for immediate recognition of over or under usage
  • Ability to view Production Orders on the Task List (dispatch list) and Track back to the Sales Order to view which customer would be affected by moving this job out Ability to view the impact a change on the Task List will have on the load because the two windows are dynamically linked. Hence, changes on the Task List are instantly reflected on the load window
  • Vendor Coding enables you to identify a Work Center as an outside process
  • Option to choose the Unit Cost Calculation in Time or Units
  • Track direct, indirect and total unit costs
  • Ability to automatically flush the Work Center or Machine Center for automatic recording of expected output
  • Easily move jobs to other Work Centers to alleviate bottlenecks
